In Greater Cleveland our performing arts theaters have an historical impact upon the nation in general. PlayhouseSquare is the second largest largest performing arts center in the country next to Lincoln Center in New York. Karamu House developed a reputation for nurturing black actors having carried on the mission of the Gilpin Players, an all-black theatre company in Cleveland whose heyday predated Karamu. The Cleveland Play House is the oldest regional theater in the country!
