DWAYNE JOHNSON, IDRIS ELBA JASON STRATHAM ‘HOBBS AND SHAW’

Idris Elba is reportedly to play the “main villain” in the Fast & Furious spinoff starring Dwayne Johnson.

Deadpool 2’s David Leitch is directing the movie, which pairs Johnson (reprising his role as special agent Luke Hobbs) with another Fast & Furious family favorite, Jason Statham (criminal mastermind Deckard Shaw).

“Fast and Furious” architect Chris Morgan penned the script, with production set to commence this fall.

According to sources, the film will see often-at-odds pair teaming up with Elba’s character being the antagonist the duo will go up against.

Jason Statham joined the series in the seventh movie, and the Rock joined it on its fifth installment. Since his arrival, Universal has tried to find a way to spin off Johnson’s Hobbs character, given his popularity with fans.

Elba’s no stranger to playing such popular franchise, given his agitated moves and speed. He previously appeared as the villain in “Star Trek Beyond,” in addition to voicing the famous Shere Khan in Jon Favreau’s “The Jungle Book.”

It’s going to be very fun to see the fusing of Elba, The Rock, and Statham. Now the question that remains is Will Tyrese welcome this news? Tyrese has been very critical against the franchise.

The film, which is slated to begin production this fall, will be the ninth film in the franchise, and the fifth that Johnson has participated in.

It will be the first film featuring Elba Idris who’s has been busy  in films that include “The Dark Tower,” “Molly’s Game,” “Thor: Ragnarok,” and “The Mountain Between Us.”

Elba is currently in production on the Netflix comedy series “Turn Up Charlie,” which he created, and will topline and executive produce.

The news comes just a few days after the actor, musician launched his label and revealed his first signing. Elba set up his label called 7Wallace Music and has signied; French-Cameroonian artist James BKS who has produced for the likes of Diddy and Talib Kweli.

Speaking to Billboard, Elba said: “James is a rare find. His hip-hop sensibilities transfer to the other music he makes, he’s a nice person to work with and is gonna be a strong artist for the future. It’s a huge move for 7Wallace, a small indie label.”

In the meantime, rumors have it that the spinoff hits theaters on July 26, 2019.
