Janet Jackson made a statement  last  month addressing rumors that she has cancer. Confirming that the rumors were absolutely false, she did admit that she had to cancel several shows due to illness.

“The rumors are untrue. I do not have cancer. I am recovering,” Jackson said in a video released on Twitter, captioned “From my lips…” and set to her song “The Great Forever.”

“Thank you for your prayers and love.”

The singer just announced in December that she will have to postpone several of her 2016 shows from her “Unbreakable” world tour, telling her Twitter fans that she has recently been advised to have surgery.

“I need you to know, I learned today, from my doctors that I must have surgery soon,” she wrote. “It breaks my heart to tell you that I am forced to postpone the Unbreakable Tour until the spring.”

Jackson did not elaborate any further on her condition at this current time, saying, “There will be no further comment.”

A RadarOnline.com article that was published on Tuesday did speculate that she was currently undergoing tests for a growth on her vocal chords that could possibly be cancerous. The reports cited an unnamed source for the story, and other media outlets picked it up.

Ms. Jackson’s team made the decision to address the rumors head-on, citing widespread concern over the health of the singer via a Twitter post this past Wednesday.

“It was Janet’s wish not to make any further comments about her health, however, because of the great concern from around the world, Janet will be releasing a personal message shortly.”

Jackson, 49, told fans in December that she’d be back on stage soon. “Please pray for me, my family and our entire company during this difficult time,” she asked.

The singer has had to postpone several of her tour dates in October after being advised by a doctor to rest her voice, saying that she would return to make up for lost concerts.

Jackson’s latest album, “Unbreakable,” is her seventh to chart at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts.
