Looking back at Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake’s 2004 Super Bowl “wardrobe malfunction,” it was apparent that not many were convinced that whatever happened was by accident. And, interestingly, Jackson’s former stylist Wayne Scot Lukas, who was part of the production, has come out to assert that it was all planned by Timberlake. Lukas recently came up with shocking revelations about the scenario.

The Super Bowl performance served Timberlake some good payback time. During the show’s finale, the “Cry Me A River” singer ripped off Jackson’s top, leaving her breast open. This was a shocking moment to the audience and Jackson, but it’s now getting clearer that it was all within Timberlake’s plans, although he labeled it a “wardrobe malfunction,” according to Lukas.

The stylist says the incident was nothing like ‘wardrobe malfunction,” as reported by Page Six.

“I wouldn’t call it a wardrobe ‘malfunction’ in a million years. It was the most functioning wardrobe in history. As a stylist, it did what it was intended to do,” Lukas told Page Six.

According to Lukas, Timberlake pushed for the “wardrobe malfunction” to one up on his ex-girlfriend, Britney Spears, who had made headlines months earlier for kissing Madonna and Christina Aguilera live at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Lukas further told Page Six that the former Nsync singer “insisted on doing something bigger than their performance. He wanted a reveal.” Lukas revealed that, according to initial plans, Jackson was to wear a pearl G-string dress, inspired by the one worn by Kim Catrall’s character on Sex and the City.

“Janet was going to be in a Rocha dress, and [Justin] was going to step on the back of her dress to reveal her butt in this pearl G-string,” he said. However, “the outfit changed a couple of days before, and you saw the magic.”

In February, Timberlake released a public apology to both Jackson and Spears, for his misogyny and racism.

“I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually, because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed,” he wrote on Instagram.

Lukas says that the apology pushed him to open up after 17 years of silence.
