House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says Democrats will retain a majority in the House after this year’s midterm elections.
She acknowledges there have been swings in power over the last couple of elections, but tells CNN in an interview for broadcast Sunday on “State of the Union” that Democrats are prepared for elections and will be fighting for every seat.
The California Democrat says swings in party control of the House have happened when the party in power wasn’t ready for elections. She says Democrats have been working hard in Congress but must communicate to voters what they’ve done.
Democrats hold an advantage of almost 80 seats over Republicans in the House. But 49 Democrats are in districts that Republican presidential candidate John McCain won in 2008.
