Cuyahoga County Commissioner Peter Lawson Jones responded to Thursday’s resignation of county Auditor Frank Russo, and called for fellow Commissioner Jimmy Dimora to resign from office.

After bribery charges were filed against Russo, Jones responded at a press conference Thursday morning, saying that he was frustrated and upset with the behavior of Russo during his time in office.

Russo “should have resigned two years ago,” Jones said. “What he did is unforgiveable. Careers were affected.

“There’s no relief, there’s no closure. It’s an unmitigated disaster thanks to a handful of renegades.”

Jones expressed his frustration by saying that he wanted to use some “four-letter words” to describe his anger.

In regard to Dimora, another target of the federal corruption probe and the former chairman of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party, Jones said, “It’s time for Jimmy to resign as well. It’s long past time.

“The walls are closing in on Dimora.”

The county commissioners have a regularly scheduled meeting for next Thursday, and Jones said that they will appoint an interim auditor either before or at that meeting.
