A journalist (Nyqvist) and a computer hacker (Rapace) are hired to investigate disappearance of young Harriet Vanger (Fröling). Their search connects to a series of decades-old murders, though it also begins to reveal the Vanger family’s dark and secretive history.

THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATOO MOVIE TRAILER

A huge hit in its native Sweden, Dragon Tattoo has already been optioned by Sony for a remake, with Steven Zaillian (Schindler’s List) scripting and the lit-minded Scott Rudin producing. The movie’s two sequels were released within a year of the original, so it’ll be interesting to see who’s cast in the potential franchise. And I imagine it means a whole chunk of additional change for the estate of novelist Stieg Larsson, who passed away right before the first novel was published.
