GET LOW MOVIE TRAILER

Most every festival review declares that director Aaron Schneider has created a near-perfect folk tale with his debut feature, one for which Robert Duvall might be celebrated come awards season. Aside from Duvall, the presence of funeral parlor owner Bill Murray might obscure attention paid elsewhere, but we think Sissy Spacek and Bill Cobbs, playing a widow and a reverend, respectively, are the performances to note here. Don’t count out heat for Schneider, won an Oscar for the short Two Soldiers, and the screenplay, which was co-written by “Mad Men”’s Chris Provenzano.

We’re wondering how PG-13 director Jay Roach will handle himself in the post-Hangover world, where the mainstream has embraced bawdy language and behavior. Meanwhile, there have been *a lot* of writers attached to this story during its development and production. Wow, I can almost hear the whispers of film executives that say Carell’s character should make like Evan Baxter after this movie and spin-off into a second adventure.

For his next drama, Efron reteams with his 17 Again director, Burr Steers, for a project that seems like it has more in common with Steers’ first film, Igby Goes Down. Originally set for a summer release, Universal made the smart decision to movie Charlie to the fall. Oops!

A special-effects free family movie is a rare thing these days, although today’s parents are probably more familiar with the name Beverly Cleary than their progeny? I could be wrong there. Fox-Walden probably shelled out a bit in casting Disney Channel star Selena Gomez, but she’s a good face for the marketing campaign as Ramona’s long suffering older sister, Beezus. Ms. Gomez might outshine Ramona herself, li’l Joey King, who will next be seen in a different light her next time out.

We understand the doc has been edited since its Sundance debut to be a bit more global in its scope and less focused on the U.S.’s role in the horror.

INCEPTION MOVIE TRAILER

The combination of a secretive Chris Nolan story and a reunion with members of his Dark Knight crew (composer Hans Zimmer is here, along with the same cinematographer, editor, and others) adds up to my most anticipated major-studio release of the year. The enthusiasm generated by the two initial trailers is more deafening than the combined volume of those who are tsk-tsking the cast picks and the Cameron-is-better-than-Nolan haters.

Everyone’s harping on Nic Cage’s hair, his financial woes, and how 2010 seems to be his Dungeons & Dragons year. If National Treasure mastermind Jon Turteltaub were not behind this project, we’d have serious doubts about its chances; as it stands, we semi-seriously hope it’s a surprise blockbuster. And the first trailer is equal parts entertaining and strange.

PREDATORS MOVIE TRAILER

When it comes to competing franchises, Predator is way less enduring than Alien, wouldn’t you agree? Maybe that’s why this reboot doesn’t make me red-hot angry as much as Fox’s planned Alien prequel. The cast is lean (hopefully Splice will be seen by the naysayers who think Adrien Brody isn’t tough enough for the genre), and you really could ask for a much worse director/producer combo than NimrÃ³d Antal and Robert Rodriguez. Truthfully, doesn’t it just come down to how cool the creatures look?
